These courses provide onshore certification for skills often required by members of our Club

A local marine mechanic with many years experience on a great variety of vessels, small and large, old and new, is willing to share his knowledge and fixes for the issues you may encounter. This course will inform you about the maintenance, winterizing and pre-season commissioning of diesel and gasoline engine vessels. How to spot and deal with common problems in engines and propulsion will be covered. He will discuss other boat systems such as electrical, water and waste systems. With his knowledge of most of the types of boats in our area, he can answer questions about troubles that may happen to your boat, how to prevent them, and how to correct them.
Open to members and non-members.

To operate a Marine Radio, or VHF, you need a Marine Radio Certificate, it's the law!
Learn all about the uses of marine radios, choice of frequencies, operation, phonetic alphabet, procedural words and phrases, as well as Digital Selective Calling and the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, (DSC/GMDSS). All mariners, including recreational boaters, will want to take advantage of the many features and capabilities of this innovative form “automatic” radio. This course takes two evenings to complete.

By law you need a Power Vessel Operator's Permit (Harbour License) and a Pleasure Craft Operator's Card to operate a motorized vessel within the Toronto Harbour. This includes Humber Bay.
Participants will take a written and practical test in order to achieve their Power Vessel Operator's Permit. This involves operating a powerboat, and successfully docking and launching the boat.
Cost: $60 plus HST (includes testing materials).

Level “C” (Adult, Child and Infant) with AED and Public Access Defibrillation:
This cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) program addresses adult, child and infant life-threatening emergencies, and provides training on how to operate an AED in incidents of sudden cardiac arrest. Certification through this course is valid for one year.
